To bite off more than you can chew贪多嚼不烂Eg: Designing a new website all by myself is a real challenge. I might have bitten off more than I can chew.独自设计一个新网站是一个真正的挑战。我可能贪多嚼不烂了。

Another proverb is, do not bite off more than you can chew. This means do not try to do more than you are able to do.

get into hot water陷入困境(等于be in hot water)是与水有关的典型的习语。热水太热,不能轻易碰触。
